About Me
I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 2005 from Sheffield Hallam University. I returned to Hull and spent the next 8 years working for the NHS, gaining experience treating post-operative orthopaedic surgical patients, a range trauma injuries and also worked in plastic surgery (complex tendon and nerve repairs) and hand therapy, where I learnt about wound management, splinting and suture removal. During this time I also worked for Hull FC, dealing with pitch-side care, as well as ‘behind the scenes’ management to return players to action as soon as possible. My next move was to Spire Hospital in Hull, where I utilised my range of experience in mainly musculoskeletal injuries and orthopaedic surgery in a busy private hospital. I then moved to the University of Hull to lecture on the Sport Rehabilitation programme 4 years ago, where I currently remain as a specialist lecturer to deliver a module in complex neuromusculoskeletal management. The lecturing role has reduced as my private clinic has grown over the last 3 years and the plan is to now commit more time to this to offer quality, quickly accessible physiotherapy management in the East Yorkshire area.
My Approach
I believe in a very much ‘hands-on’ approach to get results as fast as possible. I also integrate this with advice, exercises and rehabilitation to encourage longer-term self-management and prevention, but understand the real need for manual treatments to aid recovery. I often use a range of manipulations/mobilisations, soft tissue manipulation/massage, acupuncture and tailored exercise programmes following a thorough biomechanical, movement pattern and hands-on assessment. I treat necks, backs and all peripheral joints and soft tissue injuries for all ages from children to senior citizens! Treatment can be appropriately adapted to the individual’s needs and requirements.
